Pretty much every favor I've come across in my search has been terrible and I was completely behind the charity idea, until this week when I came across a favor idea I could actually get behind. Chris actually liked the idea, too and now we're torn again. We deferred to our friends who's wedding we've been to in the past three years but that didn't help at ALL. In the past 3 years we've been to 6 weddings. Of those weddings 2 didn't give out favors, 2 did give favors, and 2 gave a donation to charity. Obviously, it's split across the board and this is completely our decision on which route we'd like to take.1) Don't give favors at all. I don't think favors are neccessary. We're paying enough to entertain our guests all night as it is. I've been to weddings where no favors were given and no one has batted an eyelash about it.
2) Give a donation to a charity- this is increasingly popular and classy idea. It says "yes. We spent a lot on the wedding, but we're charitable too!
3) Give favors

We're doing rock candy lolipops (less than $1 a piece) with a tag letting them know we made a donation to the foundation of a dear friend who passed away.
We included charitable donations as a part of our registry, and we also give to a few organizations on our own. So at our wedding, we thought it would be fun to offer inexpensive favors. We went with white chocolate boxes, and as far as I know, our guests liked them.
I don't think it's a necessary thing. However, we were able to win ours so we're doing personalized refridgerator memo boards, and making personalized cd's.
We aren't giving favors. Most, if not all, of our guests will be from out of town and receiving oot bags at their hotels with lots of goodies in them.
I'm pretty sure we will be giving favors, but I don't think it's terribly necessary. You're entertaining your guests, which should hopefully be enough, and I find that a lot of times I don't even use or eat the favors given out. I think out of the five weddings I've been to that have given favors, the only one I use is a wine bottle "cork"/stopper thing.
So it's up to you. Do whatever you feel like!
we're having a candy table as a way to give favors. i've also seen cookie table or brownie table that the bride has asked friends and family to help with baking. my only suggestion, is to have your gift (if you decide to give gifts) at a table or somewhere where the guests can grab them on their way out. i've been to several weddings where the favors are on the tables and the guests eat the candies out of the tins and then the tins are just left there.
I think we're either going to do M&M's (because of our initials) or bookmarks (because of our nerdiness) :)
Like some other people have mentioned above I plan on doing a dessert table that will have small bags that guests can use to fill and take away their sweet treats. Like you I didn't want to spend money on a useless trinket so everyone loves sweets in our families so this is the best thing we could think of.
get the fleur de sel caramels from the caramel jar on etsy - they were cost effective and our guests loved them so much that many have gone back to buy more after the wedding.
We didn't give favors, mostly because I'm lazy and didn't want to spend more money. I don't think anyone cared :)
I'm really interested to see how this poll comes out! Mr. C and I are in the same spot right now. We don't know exactly what we want to do! But I did vote that we will give favors, because thats what we're leaning towards now!
We did personalized CD's with music from the wedding and that was special to us. It wasn't very expensive and we got great feedback from the guests who really liked it.
Molly, how cute are you? Both of your ideas are adorable!
We plan on making a donation to the MS Society for my mother. Additionally, I have also toyed with the idea of a homemade dessert table for guests to take from as they leave. Because our reception will be on a farm in September, we are playing up the pumpkin/apple motif. This could be a great way to incorporate the theme. (Laura, can I pencil you in for your Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies???)
thanks for all the fabulous input ladies!! Kerry: YES you know it!! I LOVE those cookies and would love to share them and the recipe :)
Photobooth pictures =favors!
I received personalized matchbox favors. I find it really cute! I think it is necessary today to give wedding favors.

Well, you know I'm going to vote for a charitable contribution. Very interesting survey.
