Wedding Recap: Our Flowers

Meet our florist, John, from Flowers by Burton. John was one of the cutest, and nicest people to work with throughout our whole wedding planning process.
I put a lot of faith into him and his team with my flowers because unfortunately - I didn't get to see my bouquets at all before they were delivered on my wedding day. This made me very nervous, but that was the way they worked. I only got to see our centerpieces two days before the wedding and that was it.

The bridesmaids bouquets were just how I wanted them to be: Simple, not too big, and a mix of whites and greens. I loved how these looked against the green and black dresses:

Unfortunately, my bridal bouquet was one of two complaints I had with my flowers (I'll share the other complaint in another post) I  had hoped for a similar bouquet to my bridesmaids, but larger and with small hints of purple here and there.  Instead, this is what I received.
Purple and white with small hints of green
This wasn't really a part of my color scheme at all, and was not how I imagined it would look. Throughout the whole flower picking process, I wasn't too picky or resolute with what I wanted. I think as a result...I didn't really convey what I wanted as well as I should have. Obviously, this is a fine bouquet, and this is no way ruined any element of my wedding day. It's just not how I imagined it would be, and that sometimes bums me out.

We had alternating high and low centerpieces for our reception. I went pretty simple with these as well, since the room was already very ornate. My favorite element of the tall centerpieces were the pink ginger flowers.

The low centerpieces were mixes of purples, whites, and greens, much like my bouquet:

All in all, I was happy with all everything looked once it was all put together.
Did you know exactly what you wanted for your flower arrangements, or did you leave a lot of it up to the florist?

My flowers were a lace fan with silk flowers arranged on them. Aunt Laura made them and I still have one or two. All of your flowers looked absoulutely beautiful. and they dried quite nicely too. But I know how disappointing it can feel when you have an image in your head and it doesn't mesh with reality. But still stunning!

So pretty! I understand what you mean about the nervousness-- I didn't see ANY of my flowers until the wedding. Due to all my flower-changing drama, I was just happy with anything that looked pretty at that point haha!

Oh wow! The opposite happened with my bouquets and how they turned out!
Firstly though, I love your flowers together, too. I know what you mean about "not being EXACTLY what you imagined."
I thought I conveyed "all baby's breath bouquets DOTTED with daisises here and there" but we got ALL daisies with SUNFLOWERS AND a *bit* of babies breath added. I wanted NO sunflowers for anyone but Shawn and I and for my dad to have one in addition to his daisy, and my dad didn't get that for his bout at all.
Overall it was OK, but I get it: kinda bums you out sometimes. My suggestion to brides to learn from us: take some mo' fo'in pictures to the florist; they meet a lot of folks and unless they write down EVERYTHING they probably just forget and remember the "idea" of your flowers.

The overall look is definitely still beautiful, but I understand what you mean about the surprise of something not being what you expected. I gave some basic guidelines to my florist -- colors and flowers I liked, and she did a great job bringing my vision to life. Flowers weren't a "splurge" area for us, so I was really grateful that she still went above and beyond in giving us what we wanted.

I think your flowers are pretty but it sucks you were still disappointed. We had a florist do all the bouquets since those would be photographed a lot and I LOVED how they turned out, exactly how I wanted.

My mother-in-law and her sister did our centerpieces which were also very pretty. Not totally what I envisioned but given the cost savings from having them do the arrangments I couldn't complain.

I am sorry that your bouquet didn't look how you thought it would. All of your flowers were gorgeous though! I love that they were simple, but yet they were eye catching at the same time.

That's crazy they work where you can't see the flowers at all before! But they turned out lovely anyway!! :) Since my flowers were fake... And ordered by me. And put together by my sister and I... They were pretty much exactly what I wanted for what I could afford of course. So it worked out well. :)

They came out great! I really like the BM flowers & I understand if yours weren't exactly what you wanted, but they were still really pretty. I had the same problem - my own flowers weren't exactly what I had asked for, but they were really nice & no one noticed, so it's all good. ;)

I know nothing about flowers at all! So, when it came time to choose flowers I basically just said colors (pink and white) and left the rest up to the florist. But I ended up loving my flowers. I never saw any of the bouquets or the centerpieces until the day of and you really just have to trust others... and try not to be upset if you don't like it... which is unfortunate.

your bouquet was absolutely beautiful! it looks so nice with all the other flowers and everything was tied in so nicely!

Love all the pics, and I think your florist did a wonderful job. I really had no clue about flowers, I printed a couple pictures and brought them in when we met with the florist, he seemed to understand my vision and I hope he did! I will be going in soon for a mockup of my centerpieces so fingers crossed that I did actualy convey what I was trying to say correctly!!!

The flowers turned out so nice! I'm sorry you didn't like them though. I wasn't happy with ours (the quality not the look) either.

honestly, your bouquet was gorgeous! i love all the other flowers too. ps...your pic with your florist makes me want to take a pic with my florist (i think she's awesome!) :) as for my flowers, i'll be lucky to get to see at least my bouquet before the big day because i'll be taking bridal portraits this month. that way, if there's something i don't really like, she can tweak it before the big day!

Your flowers looked beautiful, even if it wasn't exactly as you had imagined. I, too, gave our florist very little direction - a bunch of inspiration photos and keywords like "fluffy", "organic", "wildflowers", "romantic", etc. Then he emailed me a list of flowers that he was thinking of and I told him which ones were my favorites. I was definitely nervous, but was extremely lucky when they arrived the morning of the wedding and looked better than I thought possible.
