Wedding Recap: Cutting the Cake

Near the end of the night it was time for us to cut the cake! Remember I said that there was one other thing I was upset about with our florist? When I first met with our florist, I mentioned that we would like flowers for our cake. However, meeting with him again two days before the wedding it somehow got overlooked to reconfirm those details. Before cocktail hour our banquet Manager, Mohamed, came up to me:
Mohamed: "Was the florist supposed to drop off flowers to decorate your cake?"
Me: "Yes! Did they not leave any?"
Mohamed: Looking down at my bouquet..."Nope, everything's fine, don't worry about it."
I can't be certain, but if you ask me: I think Mohamed sent one of his staff members to the florist down the street to buy matching purple roses to decorate our cake. When Chris and I walked into the reception hall an hour later, this is what we saw:
Like my bouquet...this wasn't exactly how I envisioned it with green cascading flowers, but it was still pretty and I was fine with it.

I don't think many people really watched us cut the cake, or even knew it was going on. It wasn't all "everyone stop what they're doing and watch" which took a bit of the pressure off of us, and became more of a photo shoot than anything else.
It was a close call on my Wednesday Wedding Poll as to which flavor we should pick, but french cream won 51% to cannoli cream filling at 44%.  In the end, we also decided on vanilla cake with french cream filling because we knew that cannolis would also be served at dessert.

The "Mr. and Mrs." Banner I made the exact same way I made my "Thank You" Banner for the card box table. I actually made this for our sweetheart table, but it ended up fitting much better on our cake table.
And that was our cake!

Friday Find: Proposal Cake

Friday Find: We all search and search for the best wedding cake. But did you ever think about getting your very own proposal cake?! Great for the dessert loving, why not have your two favorite things in one place: Dessert AND Diamonds (and in this case, pearls too)!

I don't know about you...but I'd DEFINITELY say "yes" to this proposal!

It kind of reminds me of the giant cupcake propsal...but much classier.

Happy Friday!

To cake topper, or not to cake topper?

Thanks for weighing in on the whole receiving line thing. So far, it seems pretty evenly divided among people who did have a receiving line and those who didn't! I'll reveal the results tomorrow. But now here's my next detail dilemma: Do I get a cake topper or have no cake topper at all?

Personally, I think flowers decorating a cake are more than enough, and very simple yet elegant, kind of like my friend Christina's cake at her wedding last October:
But then I see really cute cake-toppers and I get all torn again. They're a great personal touch, can be creative and make for great photos. For instance, my friend Ashley made her cake-topper and it was such a great addition to their cake:

I realize it doesn't really matter one way or the other, but that didn't stop me from scouring the internet for cute cake topper ideas:

This one is cute, but it's not customizable and that doesn't look like Chris at all

These birds are so cute!

This is cool, and I like how different and simple it is:

I think the clothespin caketoppers are sooo adorable!

There's also these paint your own, which bridesmaid Cassie has offered to do for me! I like these a lot, but my main concern is that they'll be too small for my large cake and will get completely lost on it! But right now, this is my number one contender.

These are pipecleaners!! How adorable and creative?!

We could go more traditional:

Or go just for the good old "D" initial topper:

I think this is neat too!

I like the penguins and they would be a homage to my nephew cat, Penguin!

I'm gonna kick myself for including this one because this will be the one that Chris will want:

This is not the direction I'm going for at all....not to mention it's $300!!:

Or I could forgo the cake topper (and expense) and have our florist do a nice green and purple flower arrangement on the top of our cake...truthfully, this is what I'm leaning toward.

What do you think??
